Conceiving a GREEN home, where sustainable living is a reachable goal, where the ideal, alternative, fully equipped ecological house is created for all European citizens; this was the pinnacle of Comenius project Home GREEN Home gathering partners of old and new Europe, of North and South.

Home Green Home Dictionary

Each partner created one virtual room of the ideal house and showed it in a video clip. We also made a little dictionary with the essential words related to the video clips (hgh-dictionary (pdf)) and a quiz (hgh-quiz-questionnaire (pdf)) to understand each typical approach better.

A questionnaire on the energy consumption and ecological living

The students prepared and filled in a questionnaire on the energy consumption and ecological living of the involved families. They also compared the results of the questionnaire and evaluated the outcomes. They got to know family life in different European regions and appreciated the richness and diversity of other cultures. A questionnaire about energy consumption of the household and the analysis of the results is available here (questionnaire_presentation_definit).

Our house!

The partners all together designed a fully equipped ecological house. Each partner designed one room and concentrated on a specific face of ecological living. The pupils integrated the best points (building, way of living, traditions) of each partner in this GREEN house. They discovered other ways of thinking, and used new IT. The partners created a virtual house that they made as they would like to have it in real. The video clips were prepared (kitchen, living room, bedroom, sauna, attic and garden). In addition the students constructed a real model of their ecological house.

Final show

At Lutkovno gledališče all the participants from all the involved countries were part of the final show. Thanks to our teacher Nataša and brilliant technical support of our student Marko the final show was just perfect. Our students Mojca and Matej, the leaders of the program, guided us through the program.

The entire audience, together with the renowned guests such as Slovenian member of EU Parliament Lojze Peterle, the first Secretary of the Romanian Embassy Dorin-Mihail Palaghiciuc and commercial attache of Italian Embassy Daniela Ciccarone with her husband, very much enjoyed the programme.

After the speeches of the headmaster of Gimnazija Poljane Bojan Končan and Lojze Peterle, we all watched the innovative and humorous video clips from each participant country. The Italian clip showed a new ecological and well designed kitchen. Then we saw the Belgian version of ecological behaviour in bedroom. The living room was presented by the Portuguese. The Slovenes presented an ecologically ideal garden despite its smallness. Finnish students showed some new knacks to make Finnish sauna more ecological and economical. At the end, the Romanians showed us their vision of HGH attic.

Between the video clips each country acted out their short performance. We also enjoyed in music played by Jaša (the saxophone) and Nikola (the accordion).

Staying in Ljubljana, group A

In the morning we gathered in front of Gimnazija Poljane. Then we got divided into groups and quickly started exploring the center of Ljubljana. The point of this exploring was getting known Ljubljana center better and finding the treasure which was the beautiful view from Ljubljana castle. After this lovely morning we had some time for lunch. At 13:30 we came back to school for an ecological project: chemistry experiments, geography quiz and making the eco house. At five o’clock we left school and went home. In the evening we went to Bachus club to have fun with our hosts. (Text by Sandra, group A)

Staying in Ljubljana, group B

This morning after we came to school in groups we started looking for important places in Ljubljana using a map. For example, we visited the National Library, the main university of Ljubljana, the castle of Ljubljana, the Three Bridges, the market place etc. After that we went to eat lunch in different cafes or restaurants. In the afternoon we had geography, building the house and chemistry, where we saw many different kinds of experiments. These included reactions with dry ice and carbon dioxide and other compounds. The reactions of the experiments were most fascinating. Finally we did an experiment ourselves. (Text by group B)

Staying in Ljubljana, group C

We gathered at Tromostovje (the Triple Bridge) and than we started the treasure hunt through Ljubljana. We passed many important and interesting buildings and monuments (Peglezen, Kanarček, the Dragon Bridge, the market place, the Prešeren square, park Zvezda, the University of Ljubljana, NUK…). Our final destination was Ljubljana’s castle, but the winners will be known tomorrow, when the scores are counted. After that we had lunch in a pizza restaurant. Later we returned to school, where we started building the green house model for the Home Green Home project. We finished work at 6 pm. (Text by group C)

Škocjanska cave and Piran, group A

At 8:30 we drove off to Primorska even though some of us were sleepy. We stopped at Škocjanska cave. We had a guided tour. Some of us were afraid of heights (like the bridge which was hanging 45 meters above the river), but we all helped each other, so we all enjoyed this experience. Then we played football (Slovenian vs. Belgium). After the match and break we drove to the seaside. We had a lot of free time, so we could go to town and had a pizza and a drink. Then we split into groups and some went to the sea front and the other ones to go-kart. Some Slovenian boys were a few minutes late, but we came to Ljubljana on time. We went home to have dinner with our hosts and then the night life began. (Text by Sandra)
